Training

Able 2 is committed to the continual professional development of its OT personnel. Policies, products and legislation continually changes. As a consequence Able 2 has a training programme developed specifically for its OT personnel to ensure they are up to date and their knowledge and consequent advice they provide is relevant and appropriate.

Forthcoming training days:

Showers, hoists, shower chairs.

Chiltern Invadex provides a quality range of specialist equipment and adaptations designed for the needs of disabled people. The training day will provide an opportunity to gain up to date knowledge of the equipment available, installation considerations, “specials”, what standard equipment can be modified for individual needs. Also an opportunity to try all the products.

Venue – Chiltern Invadex, Oxford House

Date – Wednesday 12th October

Manual Handling

Implicit with in our role as OTs, manual handling is an extremely important area. Both for the disabled person, their carers and indeed the OT when demonstrating equipment. Able 2 is arranging a training course in conjunction with the DLA for its OTs. This will provide an opportunity to audit the complete range of products available, and to consider their applications and use.

Venue – to be confirmed

Date – November 2005

Disabled Facilities Grant – Major adaptations

Much of Able 2's work is assessing and recommending the provision of major adaptations, however the legislative framework is continually being modified.

How does the OT assess what structural adaptations are possible?

The course will provide an overview of the legislation with the practical consequences of these recent changes.

To assess the home environment with regard to its structure, drainage, taking into account the principles of planning and building regulations.

Reading and interpreting plans.

The course is being developed for December 2005

Venue to be confirmed.

With the increasing legislative requirements, in particular the Disabled Discrimination Act, all public and private buildings need to be accessible and usable by disabled people.
